Fisher Back-to-School Information

August 18, 2017

Dear Fisher Families;

Welcome to a new school year and our beautiful new Fisher Elementary School! It’s been a very busy summer, with Lynden staff and construction crews working long days to get our building ready for the first day of school on August 31st . Construction will remain ongoing until the start of school.  There will be landscaping and other details still to be completed after school starts, as well as a 5 classroom addition being added to the east end, but the building will be ready for students on August 31st. It is a beautiful facility and we are so very excited for the fresh opportunities and learning that our new building will provide.

Due to ongoing construction work, we will not be posting class lists this year.  Instead, please find in this letter your student’s teacher and room number at the bottom of this page.

While our office will open beginning August 28th, families will not have access to the new building until Wednesday, August 30th during our classroom visitations.  Our visiting time for students in 1st through 5th grades will be Wednesday, August 30th from 2:00 to 3:00;  Use this time to find your child’s classroom and meet the teacher.  You can also drop off supplies at this time.  Kindergarteners will come on Thursday and Friday, August 31st  and September 1st.  Families of kindergartners should have received their scheduled Family Meeting times via mail.  If that is not the case, please contact the office at (360)354-4291. Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade classrooms, as well as our special education rooms are located on the 1st level;   3rd, 4th and 5th grades are on the second level.

We clearly understand that an hour isn’t enough time to tour the entire building.  We will spend lots of time during the first couple school days familiarizing our students with the new facility.  For families, we are planning a special evening for tours at our Open House on Tuesday, September 12th from 6:30-7:30.  More details on this event will be sent home after school starts.

School begins each day at 8:55 AM; students may arrive between 8:30 and 8:45 and wait in the cafeteria. School dismisses each day at 3:05 PM.  Our calendar for this year has changed a bit from previous years. We have reduced the number of early dismissal days, and added a one hour late start every Wednesday to provide teachers time to collaborate around curriculum and student learning. School will begin at 9:55 AM every Wednesday. The bus will come one hour later than the usual time. If this creates a difficult situation for your schedule due to working hours, we will have playground supervision for students who need to be dropped off at their usual scheduled time.

Your child will bring home a packet of information the first week of school which will include a free and reduced lunch application, calendar, menu, and other information. Most of this information is also available on the district website -

The Fisher Staff is looking forward to a great start and getting to know each of our students and families. We will see you soon!
